Investigation of the influence of an external form field to the vibration of a molecule

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Physicists at the University of Regensburg (Germany), Kanazawa University (Japan) and Linnaeus University in Kalmar (Sweden) have studied the influence of an external force field through the tip of a scanning probe microscope on the vibrations of a carbon monoxide molecule, which is bound to a copper surface. The measurements were carried out at the Institute for Experimental and Applied Physics at the University of Regensburg in an Ultrahigh-Vacuum at -269 ° C using a combination of three methods, scanning tunneling microscopy, tunnel spectroscopy and force microscopy.
