Interplay of spin-orbit coupling and superconductivity in few-layer transition metal dichalcogenides

Abstract

Project B09 aims at providing a microscopic understanding of the underlying mechanism for superconductivity, and its interplay with Ising spin-orbit coupling, in a selected class of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs)-based systems. The project is divided in two intercorrelated yet complementary work packages, WP1 and WP2, focusing on monolayer and twisted bilayer systems, respectively, and for which the leading pairing mechanism is still under debate. Screening and retardation effects by the phonons will be treated on the same footing, in a scheme which incorporates the underlying lattice structure and multi-orbital features.
