Project B10

The occurrence of ultrafast charge separation following photoexcitation of different van der Waals heterostructures can be traced back to the band alignment. The relevant microscopic scattering channels, however, remain poorly understood. In this project, we will combine time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy – a technique that allows us to investigate ultrafast charge transfer processes with unprecedented detail – with ab initio theory to understand the influence of doping, screening, defects, electron-hole interactions, and the twist angle between the layers on charge and energy transfer.
