Dieter Weiss together with Klaus Ensslin (ETH Zurich) and Jurgen Smet (MPI for Solid State Research Stuttgart) was awarded this year's Edison Volta Prize of the European Physical Society (EPS) for "their seminal contributions to condensed matter nano-science". The EPS Edison Volta Prize promotes excellence in research and is awarded in recognition of outstanding research and achievement in physics. The prize, consisting of 10,000 euros and a silver medal with a portrait of Alessandro Volta, is awarded every two years since 2012 to individuals or groups of up to three people. Dieter Weiss was honored for the "discovery of a new spectacular quantum phenomenon, the Weiss - Oscillations".
